Integration of Maastricht School of Management into Maastricht University
The Maastricht School of Management (MSM) and Maastricht University (UM) are complementary institutions that have the potential to strengthen one another. Therefore, the boards of both organisations signed an agreement on 20 May 2022, integrating MSM into the School of Business and Economics (SBE), one of UM's six faculties. After the summer, MSM's activities in the fields of education, research, and capacity building will continue as part of UM.
Combining forces
The integration is a true joining of forces in international academic and executive economic and management education in Maastricht. MSM offers education with a strong international reach, including MBA programmes and various (customised) training courses for individuals and organisations. MSM also has an extensive portfolio of international projects and applied research for institutional capacity building.

It is no coincidence that several - unfortunately unsuccessful - attempts at integration have been made in recent decades. Happily, we have now succeeded in bringing the integration process to a successful conclusion.’ Meinhard Gans, CEO of MSM: ‘Within the high-quality research and educational environment of SBE, a broader foundation is created for MSM's activities on which they can further develop and strengthen sustainably.’
Next steps towards integration
Those directly involved (staff, students, partner organisations) have been informed about the integration of MSM into UM/SBE. In the coming months, individual meetings will be held with all 77 MSM employees to discuss the transition to a UM employment contract. After the summer, they are scheduled to start working at their new SBE offices at Tapijn.
For a limited number of years, the MSM Foundation will continue to exist in an adapted form in order to, among other things, award MSM diplomas to current students.
