Veni grants for Jacco de Vries and Daan Westra
The Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) awarded a prestigious grant to two talented researchers from Maastricht University this week. These so-called Veni grants of 280,000 euros are intended for researchers who have recently obtained their doctorate who are still at the beginning of their scientific career.

Dr. ing. Daan Westra: The Works in Healthcare Networks!?
Healthcare organizations cooperate in various goal-directed networks to keep the sector sustainable. Yet, many of these fail, at the expense of valuable resources. Daan conducts the first large-scale empirical network study, in which he identifies effective configurations of structure, functioning, and contextual characteristics and develops a network-(self)assessment tool for practice.
NWO's Talent scheme
Together with Vidi and Vici, Veni is part of NWO’s Talent Scheme. Veni is aimed at excellent researchers who have recently obtained their doctorate. Vidi grants are aimed at experienced researchers who have carried out successful research for a number of years after obtaining their PhDs. Researchers in the Talent Scheme are free to submit their own subject for funding. NWO thus encourages curiosity-driven and innovative research. NWO selects researchers based on the quality of the researcher, the innovative character of the research, the expected scientific impact of the research proposal and the possibilities for knowledge use.
